Using Shopify IDs/text/subtext to set limits on specific products or product variants

DC Cart + Order Limits allows merchants to limit product purchases based on a product's ID, text, or subtext. This can be particularly beneficial when managing inventory, segmenting promotions, or controlling sales of limited items. Here's how you can set these limits up with DC Cart + Checkout.

What are Shopify Product ID/Text/Subtext?

  • Product ID/Variant ID: Unique identifiers assigned by Shopify to each product and variant.
  • Product Text: The title or name assigned to a product.
  • Product Subtext: The title or name assigned to a product variant.

How to Find Shopify Product ID/Text/Subtext

Product ID/Variant ID:

  1. Log in to Your Shopify Admin Panel: Access your store's admin dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Products: On the left-hand side menu, click on "Products."
  3. Select a Product: Click on the product whose title you want to view.
  4. View Product Details: Once you're on the product's details page, look at the top of your screen where the URL is. This is where you'll find the product ID.

The Product Variant ID is very similar but is deeper into the product details page. It can be found by continuing to follow these steps:
  1. Navigate to Variants: Scroll down to the "Variants" section of the product page. Here, you'll find a list of all the product options, such as different sizes or colors.
  2. View Variant Details: Click on the specific variant you're interested in. You can utilize the "Group By" dropdown to organize and select the specific variants you are interested in.

  1. Identify Product Variant ID: Once the name of the variant is selected, you will be taken to a new page and the URL will update to include the variant's unique identifier, which is the Product Variant ID. You can find this ID in the updated URL.

Product Text/Subtext:

  1. Log in to Your Shopify Admin Panel: Access your store's admin dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Products: On the left-hand side menu, click on "Products."
  3. Select a Product: Click on the product whose title you want to view.
  4. View Product Details: Once you're on the product's details page, look for the "Title" field. This is where you'll find the product text.

Product Subtext can be found by continuing to follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Variants: Scroll down to the "Variants" section of the product page. You'll find a list of all the product options, such as different sizes or colours.
  2. Identify Variant Subtext: Once you're in the "Variants" section, the subtext for each variant, which is the variant's name or label, will be visible.

Setting up order limits using Shopify IDs/text/subtext with DC Cart + Order Limits

Establishing, configuring, and enforcing order limits with Shopify IDs, text, or subtext is very straightforward after you have identified your IDs/texts. The steps below outline the process for setting these limits:
  1. Create a New Order Limit Rule: Create a new order limit rule with your desired "Title," "Quantity/Price Limit," "Grouping Options," "Customer Eligibility," and "Market Eligibility."
  2. Select Product Eligibility Type: Navigate to "Product Eligibility" and choose whether to limit specific products or product variants.
    • Selected Products: Applies to all variants and types of that product.
    • Selected Product Variants: Applies to only specific variants of that product or variants across multiple products
  3. Identify Products or Variants to Limit: Locate the specific product ID, product variant ID, text, or subtext you wish to use.
    • Product ID/Product Variant IDs: Only those specific products will be included in the rule.
    • Texts or Subtexts: All products that share the same title or variant title will be included in the rule across your platform.
  4. Input Multiple IDs, Text, or Subtext: Separate each ID/title with a comma to ensure they are recognized as distinct products or product variants.
  5. Save, Activate, and Test the Rule: Save the rule and activate it. Then, visit your shop, attempt to break the rule, and check if it functions correctly.
  6. Reconfigure Rule if it Doesn’t Work: Verify that the IDs or titles match exactly with those in the product descriptions.

Example

To limit all variants in size "Small":
  • Enter "Small" in the relevant field.
  • Select "Selected Product Variants."
To limit a specific variant on a specific product:
  • Enter the "Product Variant ID."

DC Cart + Order Limits helps merchants manage inventory, segment promotions, and control sales of limited items by setting purchase restrictions based on Shopify product IDs, text, or subtext. Once configured, the system applies tailored rules to specific products or variants, ensuring compliance when IDs or titles match product descriptions exactly.
