Using exclusion rules in DC Order Limits

Exclusion rules let you make exceptions to your order limits without creating multiple complex rules. They’re helpful when most of your products or customers should follow a rule, but a few need to be exempt.

When to use exclusions

  • Allow staff, wholesale customers, or VIP buyers to skip normal limits.
  • Exclude products like gift cards, digital items, or promotional freebies.

How to set exclusions

1. Access the form

  • Go to the Order Limits page.
  • Click on Create New Order Limit Rule to open the rule configuration form.

2. Scroll to exclusion rules

Decide which products or customers should be excluded from this rule:

  • Exclude Specific Products: Type in product IDs or names for any products you don’t want this rule to apply to. Separate tags with commas.
  • Exclude Customers with Tags: Enter customer tags that should not be affected by the rule. Customers with these tags can check out without restrictions. Separate tags with commas.

3. Save and activate

Click "Save" to apply the settings. Once saved, the rules are live immediately, unless you set a future start date.

Example:

  • Wholesale customers: You set a maximum of 5 items per cart. Most customers are limited, but by adding the tag wholesale under exclusions, wholesale buyers can order larger quantities.
  • VIP customers: You set a maximum of 2 items for high-demand products. By excluding customers tagged VIP , those customers can still purchase more than 2.
  • Gift cards: You set a cart weight limit of 50 lb. By excluding gift cards tagged gift cards , customers can still purchase digital cards even when their cart is full.
